Behaviour Support in Schools

View the 2017 Obudsman Inquiry into behaviour management in schools. This report focuses on issues concerning students with complex needs and challenging behaviour. The report discusses the difficult challenges that schools face, but also draws attention to reasonable steps that can and should be taken to meet the learning and support needs of students, within a framework of best practice and evidence-based behaviour support.

Bandaged Bear Visits the Grounds

Join the Bandaged Bear for a coffee as he visits the Grounds of Alexandria on Thursday 25th September 11-2pm.

The Children's Hospital at Westmead's Bandaged Bear will make an appearance amongst face painting and craft acitivities as part of the Ground's of Alexandria's school holiday program. Money raised will support the School-Link Project, Department of Psychological Medicine Children's Hospital at Westmead.

Emotion Based Social Skills Training 

 

Facilitator Training for Children with High Functioning Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome will be held on 9th and 10th October 2014. See this webpage for more information.

"Emotion-based Social Skills Training" (EBSST) is an innovative mental health promotion program developed at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead for children with High Functioning Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome, aged 8 to 12 years, their parents and teachers.

EBSST has been researched since 2004 and evaluated in over 300 Department of Education and Communities NSW public schools. Findings indicate improvements in children’s social and emotional skills up to 6 months after intervention, compared with children not receiving EBSST.

Issues in Sexuality and Disability Course

Family Planning NSW will be delivering their flagship course Issues in Sexuality and Disability’ in Ashfield on September 17 & 18. This two-day course is designed for all workers in the disability sector (including support workers, managers and allied health professionals) who would like to increase their capacity to support people with disability in the area of sexuality, relationships and sexual health.

Participants will gain essential knowledge and skills to effectively support people with disability in the area of sexuality and relationships, and learn how to use resources to facilitate positive and healthy discussions about sexuality.

Runners raise over $26,000 for kids with Autism

 

Staff and friends of the Children's Hospital at Westmead ran the City 2 Surf on the 11th August to raise money for Westmead Austim.

Many of the staff agreed to dress as superheroes if they reached certain targets of funding.

All together staff raised over $26,000, which will be dedicated to creating an app for kids with autism.

A huge thankyou to everyone who sponsored and took part in the event.
